Students of College of Social Sciences had expedition to Poland

09.24-27. 2007  Students of  college of social science visited Poland by the project “PRESERVATION OF LITHUANIA MINOR‘S CULTURAL HERITAGE AND STRENGTHENING OF REGIONAL IDENTITY”.

The main object of the project is to strengthen the cooperation and identity of neighborhood regions (Lithuanian, Polish and Russian Federation of Kaliningrad) and reveal for public society how interaction of different cultures enriched the cultural heritage of Lithuania, Polish and Russia in the Minor’s Lithuania.

In the expedition participated the head of the marketing department of the college Laura Jancyte and 9 students of the college, which have won the contest “The Best paper”. The track of the expedition was: Klaipeda- Panemune- Olsztyn- Gdansk- Suvalkai. The members of the expedition had possibility to know the historical past of visited places, which were related with Minor Lithuania and Prussia, also visited famous historical places of this region

The great impression for students left Olsztyn University. It’s the biggest one university in Poland, which was open in 01.01.1999, and his first faculty mentioned before 50 years. In Olsztyn university works more than 2950 workers and the number of students are 40 000. In this university students can choose from many daily and extramural, magistracy studies programs. Olsztyn University has more than 20 faculties: law’s, pedagogic, art’s, mathematics, economics, ground-farm, veterinaries and so on.

It’s seems that Olsztyn University is like a separate city of the students in which “old-city” there are old buildings, and around just four years old faculties of the university. In the middle of that city is a lake, the big stadium, hostels, even supermarket, pizzeria and restaurant.  And that’s all are for students, for lectures and for the administration. From one part of the city to the other we should go by walk distance of two kilometers. But our students envied very much only one thing- that here, in Olsztyn university, studies begins from the first of October.

The biggest part of the expedition students from CSS spent in Gdansk, city which impressed so nicely and grant, a specially in the evening. Students liked the Gdansk not only by walking under tight streets of city, and famous squares, but also from the roof of the biggest Holy Maria church in Europe, which is build from  bricks. Students made even 500 steps that they could reach the roof of the highest building in Gdansk and to enjoy the wonderful view.

The third city of expedition was Suvalkai. Students of College of the Social Sciences were very happy of this journey, that they could get more knowledge about neighbor’s countries and had visited the famous places of the north Poland. Students said that from now their opinion about Poland have changed completely. It’s a very nice and hospitable country which has many wonderful history places, which are well-groomed and save until nowadays.
